Rev. John Marsh, D.D. (1788-1864), born
at Wethersfield, Conn.; died in Brooklyn, N.Y. Rev. Marsh graduated at
Yale in 1804, began preaching in 1809, and was installed as pastor of
the Congregational church in Haddam, Connecticutt, in 1818. He became a
leading advocate of temperance reform – one of his writings on the
subject sold over 150,000 copies, an enormous amount for the times. He
was awarded the D.D. degree by Jefferson College in 1852. With several
pages of wood cut illustrations.
