Antisemitism: Its History and Causes
There is no hate hidden behind the content of this page, though many will make sure to find such here.
Preterism is not inherently Anti-Semitc -- nor is
Dispensationalism, though that charge is sometimes made. Any
Christian is in sin if they exhibit personal hatred against
anyone. According to many, the long standing "replacement theology" of
historical Christianity is
anti-Semitic (see below). Some say that an Anti-Semite is anyone opposed
politically to a Zionist state... But there are a large number of
Anti-Zionist Jews in the world. Any definition that considers these
Jewish people guilty of "anti-Semitism" is not reasonable. This
section is presented to help discern the line between political opposition and racial bias.

Handel's Messiah & The Destruction of Jerusalem
“Messiah” lovers may be surprised to learn
that the work was meant not for Christmas but for Lent, and that the
“Hallelujah” chorus was designed not to honor the birth or resurrection
of Jesus but to celebrate the destruction of Jerusalem and the Second
Temple in A.D. 70. For most Christians in Handel’s day, this horrible
event was construed as divine retribution on Judaism for its failure to
accept Jesus as God’s promised Messiah. // The
resurrected Jesus, sitting at the right hand of God, unleashed his anger
on the Jews by having the Roman armies lay waste to Jerusalem and its
temple in A.D. 70. // Central to Kidder and his like-minded readers is a
mode of interpretation called “typology,” which means
that events in the Old Testament point to events in
Christian history not only through explicit prophecy and
fulfillment but also through the more mysterious implied
spiritual anticipation of Christian “antitypes” in Old
Testament “types.”" -- At Scene 6 in Part 2 the
oratorio features passages from Psalm 2 of the Old Testament set as a
series of antagonistic movements that precede excerpts from the New
Testament’s Book of Revelation set as the triumphant “Hallelujah”
chorus: type and antitype, prophecy and fulfillment."

Holy Land churches attack Christian Zionism The Bishop in Jerusalem, Riah Abu Al-Assal has
joined other Arab Christian leaders in releasing a statement denouncing
“Christian Zionism” and the “contemporary alliance of Christian Zionist leaders
and organizations” with Israel. “Christian Zionism” has justified “colonization,
apartheid and empire-building” by Israel, Bishop Riah, wrote on August 22.
Millenarian views that the present day state of Israel was an agent of God were
a perversion of Christian doctrine Bishop Riah, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem
Michel Sabbah, the Syrian Orthodox Archbishop of Jerusalem Swerios Malki Mourad,
and the Lutheran bishop of Jordan and the Holy Land Munib Younan wrote. Bishop
Riah’s concerns were highlighted in an August 23 report by the Pew Forum on
Religion and Public Life, which found that approximately 42 percent of Americans
believe “Israel was given to the Jewish people by God,” while a third of
Americans (35%) stated they believed the state of Israel was “part of the
fulfillment of biblical prophecy about the second coming of Jesus.”

Chavez said that U.S.
backing of Israel is putting world on course for “Holocaust.” -
"Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Friday that U.S. backing of
Israel is responsible for flaming tensions in the Middle East and
putting the world on course toward another “Holocaust.”“The fundamental blame falls again on the U.S. empire. It’s the empire
that armed and supported the abuses of the Israeli elite, which has
invaded, abused and defied the United Nations for a long time”
“I’ll seize this opportunity to condemn categorically and fully the
aggression that the Israeli elite is carrying out against innocents over
there in the Middle East,” he said.

American Muslim: Christian Zionism, Terror in Jesus' Name - "‘Final
Dawn Over Jerusalem’ is one of Hagee’s major writings on Christian
Zionism that well exemplifies the imperialist agenda that lies at its
very core. The aim of the book is to defend the Israeli occupation of
Palestine, to denounce those who seek to protest Israeli atrocities, and
to advocate the cause of ‘Greater Israel’, all this in the name of
Christianity and premised on the notion of the Jews as being allegedly
God’s ‘Chosen People’."

resides in Jacksonville, Illinois.)
"Christian Zionists are not as tightly organized as the Judaic ones, but
they are vastly more numerous. They total 50 million Americans, perhaps
more. Although they constitute a minority of U.S. Christians, they have
attained great political power as prominent supporters of George W.
Bush's presidential campaigns.

Irving sentenced to three years in Vienna jail for Holocaust Denial -
"Denying the Holocaust is illegal in Austria and punishable with a sentence
of up to 10 years. The author said that he had visited the country twice
since 1989 without being arrested, and had thought that the charges had been
dropped. Lord Janner, the chairman of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said
that he was "pleased" at Irving's conviction. "It is the conviction
and not the sentence that matters," he said. "It sends a clear message
to the world that we must not tolerate the denial of the mass murders of the
Holocaust."

Pope
to visit Auschwitz - "Referring to a biblical psalm about the
destruction of Jerusalem, the Pope said: "It was almost a symbolic
foretelling of the extermination camps in which the Jewish people were
subjected to as part of infamous project of death which remains an
indelible shame on the history of humanity.”

Links
to Christian Zionists pose peril - Jewish Journal of L.A. - "The
theology of many Christian Zionists states there can be no peace for
Israel until the longed-for “second coming” of Jesus, and that, in fact,
the “end times” will include efforts to deceive the world with false
promises of peace. That theology would be a matter of scant interest for
most Jews, except for this concern: If the evangelicals’ new political
power helps them prevent new peace efforts because they view all
peacemaking in the here-and-now as literally satanic, the costs could be
paid in Israeli blood. "

Their
Armageddonites, and Ours - Iran's
president and Pat Robertson more alike than you think "Interestingly,
there is no mention in the Koran about a coming "Mahdi," just as the
born again have also distorted biblical prophecies. For the great
majority of Christians, their forecasts are not recognized. Professor
Leonard Liggio, who teaches the history of law at George Mason
University, describes how nearly all other Christians view the end-times
scenarios: "Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, Lutheran, Methodism, and
some Calvinists do not hold to that stuff. I can speak best about
Catholicism: many early Christians thought that Christ would return
soon, but with the fall of the Temple in 70 A.D. to the Romans, they
interpreted the sayings as referring to that happening."

Papal
Homily speaks
of Jewish nation as "unfaithful vineyard" - "Thus we reach the third
element in today’s reading. The Lord, in the Old and New Testament
alike, pronounces judgement upon the unfaithful vineyard. The judgement
that Isaiah foresees comes about in great wars and exile at the hands of
the Assyrians and the Babylonians. The judgement announced by the Lord
Jesus refers above all to the destruction of Jerusalem in the year 70.
But the threat of judgement regards us too, the Church in Europe, Europe
and the West in general."
- The Bushes and the Jews - The President's Philo-Semitism - Slate "The charges against Sen. Secret British Document Accuses Israel "The
document says stringent Israeli controls on the movement of Palestinians
in and out of the city are an attempt to restrict Arab population

Bethlehem and Ramallah, and the West Bank beyond. This will have serious
... consequences for the Palestinians," it says. "

Iranian President Preparing for Second Coming "All streams of Islam

themselves to work for the return of the Mahdi and sent it to Jamkaran. "

- An Analysis of Anti-Islamic Polemics "Mr. Bush’s support for war and Israel comes mostly from 60 million strong Christian fundamentalists who identify themselves with the neo-Crusading Religious Right movement. They now represent the single most powerful voting block in U.S. history. It is a twist of fate that brought these fanatics of Christian Right and the so-called neo-conservatives together in the U.S. to find a common platform under Bush presidency, thanks to Karl Rove, to push the country towards American unilateralism, redrawing the map of the Middle-East, and unquestioning support of the Jewish state of Israel. Many of these neocons are Jewish, who have long-awaited the backing from the Christian Right – many of them Southern Baptists – who believe that Jews of the world must be assembled in Israel a priori to facilitate the second coming of their Messiah (Jesus); those Jews who convert to Christianity will be salvaged, the rest slaughtered. Many of these Christian fanatics are, therefore, proud of their new identity as ‘Christian Zionists.’

Sec. Powell: Criticizing Israel not always Anti-Semitism - "It is not anti-Semitic to criticize the policies of the state of Israel but the line is crossed when Israel or its leaders are demonized or villainised for example by the use of Nazi symbols and racist caricatures," Powell told the Organization for Cooperation and Development in Europe meeting. German President Johannes Rau said racists had seized on the Middle East conflict and the policies of the Israeli government. "Everyone knows that massive anti-Semitism is behind some of the criticism of the Israeli government's politics in the last decades," he said.

Google to keep Anti-Semitic websites in search engine "It's the search results for the word "Jew" that are causing all the problems for the online giant – the site that ranks first is anti-Semitic Jewwatch.com, which links to other anti-Jewish sites and lists various supposed Jewish conspiracies. Although Google says it has no plans to take down the site, anti-Jewwatch websites and petitions have been created, calling for the site's removal and demonstrating the strength of feeling surrounding the issue. The email forwards that have been circulating on the internet this week have been requesting 50,000 signatures to force Google to change its mind. That target was beaten yesterday."
Replacement Theology, Truth or Antisemitism - "It is only fair to mention that from the days of Paul onward, there was considerable anti-Christian hostility from among the orthodox Jews because of the claims of Christianity. Because the rapidly growing Church was becoming a real threat to Judaism, fear and hatred of Christianity would not be surprising. It is quite possible that the Jews may have aided and even instigated the early Roman persecution of the Christians in the first few centuries." (the Covenant Predates Moses)

Albert Mohler on Newsweek's cover story - Crosswalk "Further, Meacham claims that "many scholars believe that the author of Matthew, which is the only Gospel to include the 'His blood be on us' line, was writing after the destruction of the Temple in [AD] 70 and inserted the words to help explain why such misery had come upon the people of Jerusalem. According to this argument, blood had already fallen on them and on their children." Here Meacham's subversion of the biblical text is most apparent. He projects the authorship of the Gospel of Matthew at least a generation after the crucifixion itself and attributes the shape and substance of the Gospel to an anonymous author's intention to push a political agenda and to explain the destruction of the Temple."
Who Really Killed Jesus? - Newsweek "And many scholars believe that the author of Matthew, which is the only Gospel to include the "His blood be on us" line, was writing after the destruction of the Temple in 70 and inserted the words to help explain why such misery had come upon the people of Jerusalem. Anti-Semitism, A Practical Manual "Is everybody who criticizes Israel an anti-Semite? Absolutely not. Can a person be an anti-Zionist without being an anti-Semite? Absolutely yes."
Definition of 'Jew' confronts Israel
Who is the true Zionist? - "Legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte once passed by a synagogue in Paris and observed that men, women and children were sitting on the ground and crying. He was curious to find out what catastrophe had befallen them, and how he could help. He was astonished to learn that they were mourning the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and the banishing of the Jewish people from their homeland."

But since I learned that those miserable and accursed people do not cease to lure to themselves even us, that is, the Christians, I have published this little book, so that I might be found among those who opposed such poisonous activities of the Jews and who warned the Christians to be on their guard against them."

An Answer to the Jews (210) "IT happened very recently a dispute was held between a Christian and a Jewish proselyte. Alternately with contentious cable they each spun out the day until evening. By the opposing din, moreover, of some partisans of the individuals, truth began to be overcast by a sort of cloud. It was therefore our pleasure that that which, owing to the confused noise of disputation, could be less fully elucidated point by point, should be more carefully looked into, and that the pen should determine, for reading purposes, the questions handled."
Veronica, Legend of | Ann Coulter "Incidentally, if a person makes an argument that is, in fact, racist, etc, shouldnt that fact be self-evident? Simply restating the argument ought to demonstrate the bigotry -- if bigotry it is -- without a big warning label screaming Racist! Sexist! or Anti-Semitic! A false argument should be refuted, not named. Thats the basic idea behind freedom of speech. Arguments by name-calling, rather than truth and light, can generally be presumed fraudulent.(Ann Coulter, Shut up, He Explained October 15, 1999)
Zola Levitt On "replacement theology"
"This whole gang is a bunch of unbelievers that have been around for a long time. You can't read the Bible and replace Israel, it's craziness. It's mentioned on every page. All the writers are Jewish, cover to cover. There's no point to that, other than anti-Semitism. It started way back with St. Augustine, who had good intentions. He saw that Israel was dispersed. He couldn't think how could God do this. He didn't have the vision to see that He's going to bring them and restore them to the land, and he didn't read the Scriptures evidently, but he started this system that its the church that's replaced Israel. It's crazy." Woodrow Kroll (Dispy Premillennialist)
"THE SACRED WALL OF THE JEWS. The Temple of Solomon was situated on an enlarged Mount Moriah. The expanded area was buttressed by restraining walls. When Herod rebuilt the temple, he extended these (restraining) walls even farther. Many Christians mistakenly identify the Western Wall with that of Solomon's Temple; it is not. In fact, it is not even the wall of the Second Temple, but it is part of the retaining wall of that temple." (Bible Country, A Journey Through the Holy Land, p. 159)
Kuenen (1874) "we ourselves, as Christians, are so greatly indebted to Israel, we should yet desire to become acquainted with the origin and growth of a religion which has achieved so many conquests. It appears here, if anywhere, how unreasonable it would be to 'despise the day of small things' for here we are reminded of 'the grain of mustard seed, which indeed is the least of all seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.'" |
JEWS FOR JUDAISM - ANTICHRISTIANISM?
- The Anti-Missionary List (The Truth of Judaism) | Christianity Revealed: Those numerous predictions that Jesus failed to complete during his sojourn on planet earth will, they allege, be fulfilled when he returns a second time. For utter deception this ploy has no equal. Using that subterfuge, anyone could claim to be the messiah. Besides, all this points out is the fact that Jesus failed his first time around! The Second Coming concept is nothing more than a Christian ruse to conceal blatant shortcomings on the part of Jesus.
- Jewish view of failure of Christ's return - "Jesus did not come back "quickly," as promised, to judge mankind. The time has long past that one can claim Jesus will come back "quickly." Thus, what we have in Revelation 22:20 is a false prophecy." Jews for Judaism
- "These various statements reveal that the myth of the "second coming" was explained in different ways as the interval following Jesus' death lengthened." Jews for Judaism - "Apparently, the early Christian community was convinced of the imminent return of Jesus, as the Messiah, and the inauguration of the kingdom of God. It never happened." Jews for Judaism - "The expectation of Paul and the other New Testament authors was for the speedy arrival of the second coming in their generation. The use of "for yet a little while," "shortly," "the time is near," and "I am coming quickly" point to the utter failure of the predictions that Jesus was coming a second time to do what he did not accomplish the first time." Jews for Judaism - "There was to be fulfillment within the lifetimes of certain individuals alive at the time Jesus made the promise and following upon certain cataclysmic events which were to be witnessed by that generation. These events never occurred and the time for their occurrence has long since passed." Jews for Judaism - "The second epistle of Peter is a late attempt to explain away the obvious fact that the second coming did not arrive at its appointed time." Jews for Judaism - "It should be noted that these "tribulations" were not fulfilled in the events of the years 66-73 C.E., the period of the First Jewish-Roman War. Jesus' own statement shows that the culmination of the "tribulation period" was to see the parousia, the second coming of Jesus (Mark 13:26; Matthew 24:3, 30), which certainly did not occur during the war nor subsequently."
