Are you a Christian Zionist?  Take the litmus test: "Do you believe that the modern state of Israel is a fulfillment of Bible prophecy?"
Christian Zionism: The Tragedy and The Turning | How Evangelicals Became Israel's Best Friend

According to many, the long standing "replacement theology" of historical Christianity is anti-Semitic.  Some say that an anti-Semite is anyone opposed politically to a Zionist state... But there are a large number of anti-Zionist Jews in the world.  Any definition that considers these Jewish people guilty of anti-Semitism is not reasonable.   This section is presented to help discern the line between political opposition and racial bias.

Christian Zionism | Unique Salvation for Jews | Timeline of Christian Antisemitism | Ulysses S. Grant's Order 11 - Expelling Jews from Government | Lutheran Church separates from Luther's belief about Jews

Charles Merivale - "The most soul-stirring struggle in all ancient history." "The overthrow of Judea, with all the monuments of ancient but still living civilization, was the greatest crime of the conquering republic.  It was commenced in wanton aggression and was effected with a barbarity of which no other example occurs in the records of civilization." (Romans Under the Empire, Vol. 7, Chapter 59, p. 251)

Compared to:

Philip Schaff - "history records no other instance of such obstinate resistance, such desperate bravery and contempt of death." "Thus, therefore, must one of the best Roman emperors execute the long-threatened judgment of God ; and the most learned Jew of his time describe it and thereby, without will or knowing it, bear testimony to the truth of the prophecy and the divinity of Jesus Christ, the rejection of whom brought all this and the subsequent misfortunes upon the apostate race." (History, Vol. 1, pp. 379, 397)

  • 2014: Michael Scheuer, Al-Qaeda, and Israel: How Noticing Things Can Cost You Your Job  "Scheuer also mentioned how any criticism of the Israeli-US relationship is painted as anti-Semitic, which only was confirmed by what happened to him. Scheuer’s employer, the Jamestown Foundation, received threats of funding cuts from donors. Scheuer was out the door. He dared to notice the pattern of US foreign policy and the uneven manner in which Israel is viewed or treated. They went right after him, including a Hitler reference. They fed right into his criticism of the toxic foreign policy environment."

  • 2014: Paul Stanley calls KISS members Anti-Semitic “As a result, the two of them tried to sabotage the band — which, as they saw it, was unfairly manipulated by [us] money-grubbing Jews.”

  • 2009: Interview with Bishop Richard Williamson "SPIEGEL: Are you actually aware that you are dividing the Church with your extreme views?  Williamson: Only violation of the dogmas, that is, the infallible principles, destroys faith. The Second Vatican Council declared that it would proclaim no new dogmas. Today the liberal bishops act as though it were some sort of all-encompassing super-dogma, and they use it as justification for a dictatorship of relativism. This contradicts the texts of the Council.  SPIEGEL: Your position on Judaism is consistently anti-Semitic.  Williamson: St. Paul put it this way: The Jews are beloved for the sake of Our Father, but our enemies for the sake of the gospel.  SPIEGEL: Do you seriously intend to use Catholic tradition and the Bible to justify your anti-Semitism. Williamson: Anti-Semitism means many things today, for instance, when one criticizes the Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip. The Church has always understood the definition of anti-Semitism to be the rejection of Jews because of their Jewish roots. This is condemned by the Church. Incidentally, this is self-evident in a religion whose founders and all important individuals in its early history were Jews. But it was also clear, because of the large number of Jewish Christians in early Christianity, that all men need Christ for their salvation -- all men, including the Jews."

  • 2003: Criticism is not Antisemitism

  • 2001: Henk Jan de Jonge: Anti-Judaism in the Gospel of John (PDF) "The depiction of "the Jews" that arises in the Gospel of John is not a favorable image.  The Evangelist not only speaks frequently of "the Jews" as a group that is in vehement opposition to Jesus, but he also treats this group repeatedly as a large, monolithic, indistinguishable mass."

  • 1742: Handel's Messiah & The Destruction of Jerusalem “Messiah” lovers may be surprised to learn that the work was meant not for Christmas but for Lent, and that the “Hallelujah” chorus was designed not to honor the birth or resurrection of Jesus but to celebrate the destruction of Jerusalem and the Second Temple in A.D. 70. For most Christians in Handel’s day, this horrible event was construed as divine retribution on Judaism for its failure to accept Jesus as God’s promised Messiah. // The resurrected Jesus, sitting at the right hand of God, unleashed his anger on the Jews by having the Roman armies lay waste to Jerusalem and its temple in A.D. 70. // Central to Kidder and his like-minded readers is a mode of interpretation called “typology,” which means that events in the Old Testament point to events in Christian history not only through explicit prophecy and fulfillment but also through the more mysterious implied spiritual anticipation of Christian “antitypes” in Old Testament “types.”" --  At Scene 6 in Part 2 the oratorio features passages from Psalm 2 of the Old Testament set as a series of antagonistic movements that precede excerpts from the New Testament’s Book of Revelation set as the triumphant “Hallelujah” chorus: type and antitype, prophecy and fulfillment."

  • Irving sentenced to three years in Vienna jail for Holocaust Denial - "Denying the Holocaust is illegal in Austria and punishable with a sentence of up to 10 years. The author said that he had visited the country twice since 1989 without being arrested, and had thought that the charges had been dropped. Lord Janner, the chairman of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said that he was "pleased" at Irving's conviction.  "It is the conviction and not the sentence that matters," he said.  "It sends a clear message to the world that we must not tolerate the denial of the mass murders of the Holocaust."
  • Pope to visit Auschwitz - "Referring to a biblical psalm about the destruction of Jerusalem, the Pope said: "It was almost a symbolic foretelling of the extermination camps in which the Jewish people were subjected to as part of infamous project of death which remains an indelible shame on the history of humanity.”
  • Links to Christian Zionists pose peril - Jewish Journal of L.A. - "The theology of many Christian Zionists states there can be no peace for Israel until the longed-for “second coming” of Jesus, and that, in fact, the “end times” will include efforts to deceive the world with false promises of peace. That theology would be a matter of scant interest for most Jews, except for this concern: If the evangelicals’ new political power helps them prevent new peace efforts because they view all peacemaking in the here-and-now as literally satanic, the costs could be paid in Israeli blood. "
  • Their Armageddonites, and Ours - Iran's president and Pat Robertson more alike than you think "Interestingly, there is no mention in the Koran about a coming "Mahdi," just as the born again have also distorted biblical prophecies. For the great majority of Christians, their forecasts are not recognized. Professor Leonard Liggio, who teaches the history of law at George Mason University, describes how nearly all other Christians view the end-times scenarios: "Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, Lutheran, Methodism, and some Calvinists do not hold to that stuff. I can speak best about Catholicism: many early Christians thought that Christ would return soon, but with the fall of the Temple in 70 A.D. to the Romans, they interpreted the sayings as referring to that happening."
  • Papal Homily speaks of Jewish nation as "unfaithful vineyard" - "Thus we reach the third element in today’s reading. The Lord, in the Old and New Testament alike, pronounces judgement upon the unfaithful vineyard. The judgement that Isaiah foresees comes about in great wars and exile at the hands of the Assyrians and the Babylonians. The judgement announced by the Lord Jesus refers above all to the destruction of Jerusalem in the year 70. But the threat of judgement regards us too, the Church in Europe, Europe and the West in general."
  • The Bushes and the Jews - The President's Philo-Semitism - Slate "The charges against Sen. Prescott Bush, the grandfather of the current president, went beyond the disdain for Jews and discriminatory practices that were characteristic of New England WASP culture in his day. Prescott Bush was a director of a New York bank where rich Germans who supported the Nazis stashed millions in personal wealth."
  • Secret British Document Accuses Israel "The document says stringent Israeli controls on the movement of Palestinians in and out of the city are an attempt to restrict Arab population growth. "When the barrier is completed, Israel will control all access to East Jerusalem, cutting off its Palestinian satellite cities of Bethlehem and Ramallah, and the West Bank beyond. This will have serious ... consequences for the Palestinians," it says. "
  • Iranian President Preparing for Second Coming "All streams of Islam believe in a divine saviour, known as the Mahdi, who will appear at the End of Days. A common rumour - denied by the government but widely believed - is that Mr Ahmadinejad and his cabinet have signed a "contract" pledging themselves to work for the return of the Mahdi and sent it to Jamkaran. "
  • Symposium: Feminist Anti-Semitism "radical feminists today side -- ferociously -- with the Palestinians, whose society practices a ruthless form of gender apartheid. Why?"
  • An Analysis of Anti-Islamic Polemics "Mr. Bush’s support for war and Israel comes mostly from 60 million strong Christian fundamentalists who identify themselves with the neo-Crusading Religious Right movement. They now represent the single most powerful voting block in U.S. history. It is a twist of fate that brought these fanatics of Christian Right and the so-called neo-conservatives together in the U.S. to find a common platform under Bush presidency, thanks to Karl Rove, to push the country towards American unilateralism, redrawing the map of the Middle-East, and unquestioning support of the Jewish state of Israel. Many of these neocons are Jewish, who have long-awaited the backing from the Christian Right – many of them Southern Baptists – who believe that Jews of the world must be assembled in Israel a priori to facilitate the second coming of their Messiah (Jesus); those Jews who convert to Christianity will be salvaged, the rest slaughtered. Many of these Christian fanatics are, therefore, proud of their new identity as ‘Christian Zionists.’

  • Sec. Powell: Criticizing Israel not always Anti-Semitism - "It is not anti-Semitic to criticize the policies of the state of Israel but the line is crossed when Israel or its leaders are demonized or villainised for example by the use of Nazi symbols and racist caricatures," Powell told the Organization for Cooperation and Development in Europe meeting.  German President Johannes Rau said racists had seized on the Middle East conflict and the policies of the Israeli government. "Everyone knows that massive anti-Semitism is behind some of the criticism of the Israeli government's politics in the last decades," he said.
  • Google to keep Anti-Semitic websites in search engine "It's the search results for the word "Jew" that are causing all the problems for the online giant – the site that ranks first is anti-Semitic, which links to other anti-Jewish sites and lists various supposed Jewish conspiracies. Although Google says it has no plans to take down the site, anti-Jewwatch websites and petitions have been created, calling for the site's removal and demonstrating the strength of feeling surrounding the issue. The email forwards that have been circulating on the internet this week have been requesting 50,000 signatures to force Google to change its mind. That target was beaten yesterday."
  • Replacement Theology, Truth or Antisemitism - "It is only fair to mention that from the days of Paul onward, there was considerable anti-Christian hostility from among the orthodox Jews because of the claims of Christianity.  Because the rapidly growing Church was becoming a real threat to Judaism, fear and hatred of Christianity would not be surprising.  It is quite possible that the Jews may have aided and even instigated the early Roman persecution of the Christians in the first few centuries." (the Covenant Predates Moses)

  • Israel's Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi mulls "The Passion" - "The chief Israeli rabbi for Sephardic Jews, Shlomo Amar, was not available for comment."

  • Shalom asks Schwarzenegger to speak at anti-Semitism parley "Governor Schwarzenegger has accepted our invitation and will be the guest speaker at the ground-breaking ceremony on May 2," Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and director of the Museum of Tolerance, told Haaretz."

  • Albert Mohler on Newsweek's cover story - Crosswalk "Further, Meacham claims that "many scholars believe that the author of Matthew, which is the only Gospel to include the 'His blood be on us' line, was writing after the destruction of the Temple in [AD] 70 and inserted the words to help explain why such misery had come upon the people of Jerusalem. According to this argument, blood had already fallen on them and on their children." Here Meacham's subversion of the biblical text is most apparent. He projects the authorship of the Gospel of Matthew at least a generation after the crucifixion itself and attributes the shape and substance of the Gospel to an anonymous author's intention to push a political agenda and to explain the destruction of the Temple."

  • Who Really Killed Jesus? - Newsweek "And many scholars believe that the author of Matthew, which is the only Gospel to include the "His blood be on us" line, was writing after the destruction of the Temple in 70 and inserted the words to help explain why such misery had come upon the people of Jerusalem. According to this argument, blood had already fallen on them and on their children." - Newsweek

  • Anti-Semitism, A Practical Manual "Is everybody who criticizes Israel an anti-Semite? Absolutely not. Can a person be an anti-Zionist without being an anti-Semite? Absolutely yes."

  • Definition of 'Jew' confronts Israel

  • Who is the true Zionist? - "Legend has it that Napoleon Bonaparte once passed by a synagogue in Paris and observed that men, women and children were sitting on the ground and crying. He was curious to find out what catastrophe had befallen them, and how he could help. He was astonished to learn that they were mourning the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and the banishing of the Jewish people from their homeland."

  • Anti-Zionism is Anti-Semitism | Internet Outflanks Zionists "In New York, Hassidic Jews openly equate Zionism with Nazism, and consider the state of Israel to be a blasphemy. Are these people anti-Semitic?"

  • Hatred of Jews Threatening Rule of Law - "Former CIA director James Woolsey is taking on Europe's media and cultural elite, saying they've drawn ''the first breath of totalitarianism'' due to their growing resentment of Jews."

  • Letter by Rabbi David Responding to "Bob" on Judaism - "Tell me about Reconstructionist Judaism (definitely not Judaism at all I presume) and tell me about Reform Judaism (not Judaism at all I presume) and tell me about Conservative Judaism ( some Conservative Synagogues maybe and some may not be genuine Judaism I presume) and tell me about the many Orthodox sects of Judaism of which I know very little, from the Neturei Karta to the followers of Kahane to those who are immersed in the teachings of the Kaballah."

  • - A Rabbi Responds to Hate "There are two sections here. One, deals with lies and distortions by haters who quote the Talmud to prove that Jews rape babies, etc. The second section is correspondence or responsa to people who ask various questions or bring things of interest to my attention and ask for my comments."

  • Address by Ariel Sharon - " One thousand, nine hundred and thirty-three years ago, on a hill not far from here, Roman soldiers burned the remains of our Temple, believing that by doing so they had put an end to the Jewish history and legacy. The historian Yosef Ben Matityahu at the time wrote that the destruction of Jerusalem was so widespread: so that one who passes over the place of the destruction, would not believe that there was in this place an inhabited city. However, their plan did not succeed." | Sharon the "Lion of God" (Dispy)

  • 1290 Edict of Expulsion of Jews from England - Geoffrey H. Smith and Arnold S. Leese  "Was Henry III, weak in character as we know him to have been, ever charged with being an immoral man? Did the judges not examine the body, which was only four weeks dead? Is Haydn's Dictionary of Dates (1847 edition) medieval and superstitious when it said of this case "They [the Jews] crucify a child at Lincoln, for which eighteen are hanged"? "

  • German Parlimentarian Defends Remarks - BBC "Conservative Martin Hohmann had said many Jews were active in execution squads during the Russian Revolution."

  • The Real Cause of Antisemitism - "According to Shahak, the Jewish elite always had a symbiotic relationship with the governing class. The Jews would "administer the oppression" of the masses. In return, the governing class would force Jews to obey their "leaders." Sometimes a pogrom would do the trick."

  • Mordechai Torczyner's WebShas - Index to the Talmud: The Destruction of the Temple | 9th of Av (The End of the World)

  • The Center for Immigration Studies: The Jewish Stake in America's Changing Demography - Dr. Stephen Steinlight, who was for more than five years Director of National Affairs (domestic policy) at the American Jewish Committee. For the past two and a half years he has been a Senior Fellow at AJC. "

  • Myth of Judeo-Christian Tradition

  • NYTimes: How to Talk About Israel

  • IAEA conference to discuss Israeli nukes for first time "The sources said this is the first time in decades that the IAEA has placed Israel's nuclear programs on the agenda of its general conference.. planned from Sept. 15 to Sept. 19.. In a recent meeting, the Arab League has asserted that Israel has stockpiled up to 300 nuclear warheads. The league said Israel now has the capability of producing hydrogen bombs."

  • The foreign policy of 20 Million would-be immortals - Gary North "As the late David Chilton, a postmillennialist and author of three books on eschatology , once said, "The day that I became a postmillennialist, I realized that I was going to die." This was a high psychological price to abandon pre-tribulational dispensationalism. Not many fundamentalists are likely to pay it."

  • Criticism of the State of Israel is not Antisemitism - Mark Rex (SLC Tribune)

  • The Israelization of the United States - "In its new Crusade, United States stands at the head of a numerous "coalition of the willing," now including forty-five countries. But Israel is missing from this long list, even though a team of colonial administrators, handpicked by Paul Wolfowtz, has already arrived in Kuwait City to take over Baghdad. That is a trick no magician could imitate. The Israelization of United States is complete." (CounterPunch)

  • The New Anti-Semitism - "Since it is now a given in many circles that Israel is a threat to the world equal to North Korea, and that Ariel Sharon is a cross between Martin Bormann and Hendrik Verwoerd, you will find yourself accused of using the Holocaust to avoid any criticism of Israel’s behaviour. Because, well, you know, you Jews always stick together and are mighty quick to deal that persecution card. " (Spectator)

  • WashPost: Hidden Agenda "David Brooks of the Weekly Standard wails that attacks based on the Israel tie have put him through personal hell: 'Now I get a steady stream of anti-Semitic screeds in my e-mail, my voicemail and in my mailbox. . . . Anti-Semitism is alive and thriving. It's just that its epicenter is no longer on the Buchananite Right, but on the peace-movement left."

  • Solzhenitsyn book infuriates Russian Jews | Discussion  "In the book, "Two Hundred Years Together," Solzhenitsyn, 84, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970 for being the first to expose the horrors of the Stalinist gulag [the chain of brutal Soviet prison camps where he was imprisoned], deals with one of the last taboos of the communist revolution: that Jews were as much perpetrators of the repression as its victims."

  • The New/Old Antisemitism "For the rabbis, anti-Semitism could also play a positive role in the divine plan"

  • Martin Luther King on Anti-Zionism - ". . . You declare, my friend, that you do not hate the Jews, you are merely 'anti-Zionist.' And I say, let the truth ring forth from the high mountain tops, let it echo through the valleys of God's green earth: When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews--this is God's own truth." Israel's Health Minister criticized for Anti-Zionist comments

  • "Israel like Nazi Germany" row - "A Welsh politician was today accused of gross anti-Semitism after comparing Israel to Nazi Germany. Mr Davies also accused the Israeli government of treating the Holocaust "like an industry" to justify its actions against Palestinians. Hitler's Nazi regime occupied Europe for four years only. Palestine and the West Bank have been occupied for 40 years"

  • On the Jews and Their Lies (1540) "I had made up my mind to write no more either about the Jews or against them. But since I learned that those miserable and accursed people do not cease to lure to themselves even us, that is, the Christians, I have published this little book, so that I might be found among those who opposed such poisonous activities of the Jews and who warned the Christians to be on their guard against them."

Justin Martyr (Second Century)

Origenes (Fourth Century)

  • An Answer to the Jews (210) "IT happened very recently a dispute was held between a Christian and a Jewish proselyte. Alternately with contentious cable they each spun out the day until evening. By the opposing din, moreover, of some partisans of the individuals, truth began to be overcast by a sort of cloud. It was therefore our pleasure that that which, owing to the confused noise of disputation, could be less fully elucidated point by point, should be more carefully looked into, and that the pen should determine, for reading purposes, the questions handled."

Veronica, Legend of

  • The Avenging of the Saviour (7th or 8th Century) "THIS version of the legend of Veronica is written in very barbarous Latin, probably of the seventh or eighth century."

Ann Coulter

"Incidentally, if a person makes an argument that is, in fact, “racist,” etc, shouldn’t that fact be self-evident? Simply restating the argument ought to demonstrate the bigotry -- if bigotry it is -- without a big warning label screaming “Racist!” “Sexist!” or “Anti-Semitic!” A false argument should be refuted, not named. That’s the basic idea behind freedom of speech. Arguments by name-calling, rather than truth and light, can generally be presumed fraudulent.(Ann Coulter, “Shut up, He Explained” October 15, 1999)

Zola Levitt
On "replacement theology"

"This whole gang is a bunch of unbelievers that have been around for a long time. You can't read the Bible and replace Israel, it's craziness. It's mentioned on every page. All the writers are Jewish, cover to cover. There's no point to that, other than anti-Semitism. It started way back with St. Augustine, who had good intentions. He saw that Israel was dispersed. He couldn't think how could God do this. He didn't have the vision to see that He's going to bring them and restore them to the land, and he didn't read the Scriptures evidently, but he started this system that its the church that's replaced Israel. It's crazy."

Woodrow Kroll
(Dispy Premillennialist)

"THE SACRED WALL OF THE JEWS. The Temple of Solomon was situated on an enlarged Mount Moriah. The expanded area was buttressed by restraining walls. When Herod rebuilt the temple, he extended these (restraining) walls even farther. Many Christians mistakenly identify the Western Wall with that of Solomon's Temple; it is not. In fact, it is not even the wall of the Second Temple, but it is part of the retaining wall of that temple." (Bible Country, A Journey Through the Holy Land, p. 159)

Kuenen  (1874) "we ourselves, as Christians, are so greatly indebted to Israel, we should yet desire to become acquainted with the origin and growth of a religion which has achieved so many conquests. It appears here, if anywhere, how unreasonable it would be to 'despise the day of small things' for here we are reminded of 'the grain of mustard seed, which indeed is the least of all seeds, but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.'"

  • The Anti-Missionary List (The Truth of Judaism) | Christianity Revealed: Those numerous predictions that Jesus failed to complete during his sojourn on planet earth will, they allege, be fulfilled when he returns a second time. For utter deception this ploy has no equal. Using that subterfuge, anyone could claim to be the messiah. Besides, all this points out is the fact that Jesus failed his first time around!  The Second Coming concept is nothing more than a Christian ruse to conceal blatant shortcomings on the part of Jesus.
  • Jewish view of failure of Christ's return - "Jesus did not come back "quickly," as promised, to judge mankind. The time has long past that one can claim Jesus will come back "quickly." Thus, what we have in Revelation 22:20 is a false prophecy." Jews for Judaism
     - "These various statements reveal that the myth of the "second coming" was explained in different ways as the interval following Jesus' death lengthened." Jews for Judaism
"Apparently, the early Christian community was convinced of the imminent return of Jesus, as the Messiah, and the inauguration of the kingdom of God. It never happened." Jews for Judaism
"The expectation of Paul and the other New Testament authors was for the speedy arrival of the second coming in their generation. The use of "for yet a little while," "shortly," "the time is near," and "I am coming quickly" point to the utter failure of the predictions that Jesus was coming a second time to do what he did not accomplish the first time." Jews for Judaism
    - "There was to be fulfillment within the lifetimes of certain individuals alive at the time Jesus made the promise and following upon certain cataclysmic events which were to be witnessed by that generation. These events never occurred and the time for their occurrence has long since passed." Jews for Judaism
    - "The second epistle of Peter is a late attempt to explain away the obvious fact that the second coming did not arrive at its appointed time." Jews for Judaism
     - "It should be noted that these "tribulations" were not fulfilled in the events of the years 66-73 C.E., the period of the First Jewish-Roman War. Jesus' own statement shows that the culmination of the "tribulation period" was to see the parousia, the second coming of Jesus (Mark 13:26; Matthew 24:3, 30), which certainly did not occur during the war nor subsequently."
