Where do premillennialists error in their approach to prophetic interpretation? Here are just 5 areas:
1. Fulfilled prophecy is interpreted as if it is unfulfilled prophecy:
"For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world no, nor ever shall be." Matthew 24:21
2. Misinterpretation of the term "last days":
"God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, [2] Hath in spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;" (Hebrews 1:1,2)
3. Distortion of Daniel's "70 weeks." The idea of separation and an indeterminable gap is one of the most unnatural and nonliteral interpretations of Scripture found in any eschatological system:
"Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. [25] Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. [26] And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. [27] And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Daniel 9:24-27)
4. Denial of the teaching of imminence concerning the events in the book of Revelation:
"The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:" (Rev. 1:1)
"Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is ." (Rev. 1:3)
"And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must be done." (Rev. 22:6)
"And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is ." (Rev. 22:10)
5. Misinterpretation concerning the timing and nature of the kingdom. The parable of the leaven teaches the universal extension and triumph of the Gospel, and it further teaches that this development is accomplished through the gradual development of the kingdom, not through a sudden and cataclysmic event such as is taught by premillennialists:
"But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. [25] And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: [26] And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? [27] And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. [28] But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then [29] Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house." (Matthew 12:24-29)
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: [32] Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. [33] Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. (Matthew 13:31-33)
