Reply to Vander Werff By Kingdom Counsel There really is not much to respond to in Mr. Vander Werffs article against the preterist view of eschatology. He fails to accept the golden opportunity to deal with the numerous questions I posed to futurists in my article, "Yes, The Lord Did Return In 70 AD". Until the futurists answer our questions about the imminency statements in the New Testament, there is not much to discuss. Time, as we have said over and over, is the crucial element in Bible eschatology. Such criticisms - such as the ones Mr. Vander Werff makes concerning the relevancy of Scripture to us today - are easily answered. I value the Bible even more as a result of knowing that all the prophecies about God's plan to redeem mankind from sin and death have come to pass. Also, the falling away which Mr. vander Werff mentions can easily be seen as having a fulfillment there in the first century (See 1 John, Jude, 1 & 2 Peter, etc.). The real issue here is TIME. And I will continue to pound away at that item until the futurists respond with some kind of intelligent and meaning-ful discussion. I'll gladly admit my error if I can have the time texts of eschatology explained to my satisfaction. Until then, vague and unconvincing arguments will do more harm than good to the futurist position. Simply saying, "it didn't happen" will convince no one. One last note: Please, Mr. vander Werff, show me where the Scriptures are that prove that a knowledge of a 'futurist' view of the second coming is essential to salvation. I especially take issue with this assertion because it implies that I am doomed to Hell if I believe God's Plan of redemption has been completed (the second coming was part of that plan). Such statements are bold and dangerous to make. Now I want to see the logic behind this seemingly clear matter.
