Friendly Discussion On Israel's Identity
In May of 1996, I attended this presentation at the Indianapolis Baptist Temple, my sending church. Four men presented arguments to support their position regarding who constitutes the "Israel of God." Dr. Greg Dixon, pastor of Indianapolis Baptist Temple, is to be commended for his willingness to allow such a broad range of materials to be taught from his pulpit.
The following is a list of the four men, and their doctrinal positions:
1. Preterism -
Ovid Need, Pastor of Linden Baptist Church - Linden, Indiana - Israel is Jesus Christ, and all "joint-heirs" in Christ through faith, with no merit in one's nature.
2.
Dispensationalism - Greg Dixon, Pastor of Indianapolis Baptist Temple - Indianapolis, Indiana - - Israel is comprised of those "Jews" spread throughout the world, who are currently on "God's prophetic shelf," and are eternally distinct from the church.
3.
Christian Identity
- Ted Wieland, Evangelist - Scottsbluff, Nebraska - Israel is the literal (natural) 'seed' of Abraham, which is comprised solely of the Anglo-Saxon, Germannic Tribes and remnant of Judah.
4.
Seedline
Doctrine - Tom Brush, from Carmel, Indiana - Israel is the literal (natural) 'seed' of Adam, as opposed to the "Cainites," which are the literal 'seed' of Satan's intercourse with Eve.
