The 'Israel' of God is Spiritual, not physical.

If people would just understand this main point, they could see that the entire bible--The Old Testament AND The New Testament--is about Jesus Christ, and those who believe him.

The physical Israel has nothing to do with god's purposes. Not in the Past, the present or the future.

It was Abraham's FAITH which made him righteous, not his bloodline. Read Romans 9:8

It is saying that it is not the PHYSICAL descendants of Abraham who are called 'Israelites', but it is the Spiritual, or people who believe God through faith, who are called 'Israelites'.

Furthermore, WHERE do people see a "Parenthesis" between Daniel's 69th and 70th week?

What bible are these people reading?

Jesus Christ made a FIRM COVENANT, and PUT AN END TO SACRIFICE in the middle of the 70th week.
HE said "IT IS FINISHED!" NO MORE SACRIFICES ARE NECESSARY. CHRIST MADE THE FINAL SACRIFICE, ONCE AND FOR ALL.

People actually claim this is talking about an evil antichrist, when in fact it is talking about The LORD JESUS CHRIST. Now thats what I call an ABOMINATION!!!

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!

Stop letting Hal Lindsey and Tim Lahaye teach you their ridiculous notions of what they think the Bible says and READ IT FOR YOURSELF!

If Gods promises are not true to Israel than they wont be true for Chrisitans either, when God says he made an everlasting covenant with Israel thats what He meant. The teaching of the preterists isnt new,its been floating around since the early Church. Its a heresy and should be viewed as such and exposed. Its recent popularity is largely a backlash against the huge sucess of the books by Tim Lahaye's Left Behind series and it wreaks replacement theology and is anti semetic. Many otherwise gifted teachers of Gods Word get Israel and the Church confused which leads them into an improper understanding of what God thinks about His people Israel and His people the Church. Im sure glad Gods not confused and His Word is still true.

This is a good website. Thanks. I am a 52-year old evangelical who grew up in a diverse blend of church exposures (7thDay Adventist/Pentecostal/Baptist/Non-denominational Bible Churches)

With all of my heart I believe that God was manifest in the flesh in His Son Jesus Christ the only Savior of sinners, who was born of the virgin Mary, lived without sin, worked genuine miracles, foretold the Jewish-Roman War which came to pass exactly as He foretold, was crucified wherein He saved all who were given to Him by the Father in eternity, and Who, as Savior and King, is the Living Eternal Judge of every single human being.

Also, I believe that we can trust that God gave us all of the 66 books of the Old Testament Canon and the New Testament Canon by His own inspiration, which will lead all who love the Lord Jesus, eventually, to fully embrace a non-cessationist preterism.

In the meantime, as we contend for the past fulfillment of the foretold eschatological events, we must always remember how difficult it was for many of us to accept this interpretation of the Word of God, and be as gracious and patient as we can with believers who still think we're nuts!

God bless

You are definitely onto something with respect to the identification of nations in Ezekiel's Gog prophecy. Might I suggest working through a new scholarly monograph that calls into question the conventional wisdom on the identification of Ezekiel's nations in chapters 38-39: Jon Ruthven, The Prophecy that Is Shaping History: New Research on Ezekiel's Vision of the End. Xulon, 2003. I really believe it takes the discussion more out of the realm of ideology and into serious historical investigation.

God bless.

Hello Mr Dennis

Thanks for your website. I have learnt a great deal from it over the  past couple of years and have barely scratched the surface.

Preterists are very rare here in Australia. Being a typesetter, and  wanting to share David Chilton's commentary to friends, I have  retypeset the very inaccurate PDF version available on the web. My  layout prints out on A4 at 270 pages (we don't use quarto here).

I copied the text out of it page by page, pasted into Quark Express,  took out all the hard line breaks to make flowing paragraphs, made  sure all footnotes were moved to the right places, then printed out  enlarged on A3 pages to proof it with a red pen using the real book  as a reference. With no experience in Hebrew, I had a friend check my  new NERON Hebrew font replacements. I redrew the diagrams in  Illustrator so they compress well (vector files). Finally I had to  change every page reference one by one in the Conclusion. Have been  very careful but there are bound to be minor errors still - there's  always one more! I would have loved to include the colour cover but  the file would be much larger for little benefit.

It's just such a crucial book and a great pity it's out of print.  Reading it was like taking the Red pill in the Matrix. Even if other  commentaries are published in future, this one is just so charming  and easy to read - and a great start to understanding Preterism  because it begins right at the heart of things. Although I know there  are more, personally, I know only one Preterist family in Australia  so it needs to be spread around here for sure.

Happy to hear your suggestions for further books, even if you supply  finished text and I do just the layout.

Thanks again for a great website. I hope you keep all that work  backed up!

Kind regards,
Mike

Mr. Dennis,

I want to thank you sooo much for this website. I have been trying to make sense of the futurist perspective for years. I was taking bible class after bible class. God spoke to me years ago and said, “You will not live to see old age.” I thought He was talking about the rapture but every time I would read and try to piece things together it never added up. Finally, years later, I said to God please tell me what you meant by what you said and I asked Him to give me the courage to receive the answer. I am convinced He lead me to this website. I was reading Revelation when He made that statement and I’ve been so afraid that I could possible live to see those days. When I read the Bible it sure didn’t sound to me like He was going to take the church out but more of something the church would go through. When I read the article you had written explaining what the “gathering of the saints” was and that it was something that happened in history, it made so much sense. I saw the timeline you had done showing the “Old Age” and the “New Age” and right there God was showing me what He meant by telling me I wouldn’t live to see “Old Age” because it was in the past!!! The futurist perspective is so ridiculous to me now.

Is there a way to donate to your Church or to this website to keep the truth of God’s word spreading?

Sincerely grateful,
JL

Do you think it might be possible that Christians experience the second coming of Christ at their (physical) death?

[Good question.. just for fun, compare the ENTIRE chapter of Matthew 16, culminating in 27-28.... and then compare to the experience of Stephen in Acts 8-9 --  perhaps the context of martyrdom in early Matthew 16 is intended to be carried all of the way through the discourse!]

I ordered on Friday afternoon, 8/11 and I received on Saturday morning 8/12.  How did you do that?  It is a first!  Very well done.  I have a few alumni friends from Pepperdine that think I am one of the heretics.  One of them even teaches at a relegious (Christian) school (William Jessup University) in the Sacramento area.  For years I have tried to persuade friends and family that a bodily second coming of Christ to this earth was not a part of the Scriptures.  My handbook beside the Scriptures was Foy Wallace's "God's Prophetic Word". I didn't know that anyone else had ever read it.  Then about a year ago, I was surfing and decided to "Google" "Foy Wallace Jr" and to my surprise I was linked to Kurt Simmon's preteristentral.com. From that point it was just like dominos...one site after another yeilded it's secrets to me.  What a world.  And, of course, it wasn't very long before I came upon the "preteristarchive" and was browsing when again I was blown away with a full picture of Max King.  I made a comment on the site and you posted it, dated 20 March 2006, time: 13:55:11. "I was a carpenter living in Middlefield, Ohio..."  At that time I had no idea what Max King was about.  We attended that Parkman Road Church of Christ for several years, mostly on Sunday morning and I knew nothing about his book.  It was just within the last month that I ran him down and got a signed copy of his first book "Spirit of Prophesy".  The world is shrinking.

Hi Todd,

I have been reading your site on and off the last few years. I am an evangelical Christian raised by a minister who has been predominantly Baptist and is now EV Free. As an adult, I have been on a journey to expand my understanding of the historic Christian faith. This is because I have always believed Christ to be the savior of the world, but have felt uncomfortable with many teachings I was raised with - especially in regards to the 'end times' mumbo jumbo. Everyone I knew growing up seemed to be consumed by it. And, many of my adult friends seem to be dismissing their role in this world, because they are 'waiting for the rapture', which they think will come soon. In my heart, I have always felt that Christ has achieved his victory - why are we still waiting for a final showdown?

I have been attending a fairly well know Presbyterian church in the SF Bay Area for the last 5 years or so. They have a 'postmodern' service, and for a while, we had a very studious young pastor who loved to dust off old theological topics and present arguments from the entire spectrum of Christian orthodoxy. He felt we neede more exposure than what we had been raised with in modern evangelical America. So, one day he gave a sermon on '4 differing views of the end-times'. Of course, I 'knew' that there were the 'pre-trib', 'mid-trib' and 'post-trib' camps, but couldn't figure out what the 4th view was going to be. Oh, how little I knew....The sermon explained the 'Futurist', 'Historicist', 'Preterist', and 'Idealist' views. What I realized is that the '3 views' I'd always heard argued were all sub-species of the 'Futurist' view. After hearing the sermon, I was convinced that the Preterist view made the most sense and started doing some reading. Your site has been an invaluable tool. My entire understanding of my faith, the scriptures, and the purpose of the church has been utterly shaken and transformed by just making this 'small' doctrinal shift. Of course, without realizing it, I had already started down this path in my mind several years before when doing an in-depth study of Daniel with my women's Bible study. We had several commentaries on the prophetic sections, and I kept arguing for why I felt all that prophecy had already been fulfilled, while most of them kept picturing more imaginative interpretations.....

Anyway, I just wanted to drop you a line to say 'thanks' for publishing all this research out there for the rest of us lesser scholars to digest. I, too, pray that there will be a change in the popular American eschatology of today - especially in light of Middle East poilitics. It is scary where some of this 'hastening the end of days' can take us in an age of advanced weaponry. Let us just live in the victory of the Prince of Peace and spread his Gospel to the ends of the earth.

This web site is a blessing for me. The title is somewhat misleading as it contains a whole library of materials for any Bible Student ( not just preteristic view). It is a wonderful place to study the early church and modern church writings. I do not believe one can get through every article posted within a liftime. I feel convicted to give a monthly donation to this site as I use it often. I believe our Lord had a hand in establishing this library. This is a very interesting site and has lots of information, my complements. I think that the Preterist thinking is very insightful and raises concerns for me about what others teach. In my opinion, certain groups have made it their business $$$$ to make a profit from "End Times" programs. They talk about current events and try to connect those events with the scriptures. I think you folks are on to something, maybe the real truth about prophetic teachings of the Bible.

About six years ago a friend sent me Gary DeMar's book "Last Days Madness". I was very intrigued and amazed that I had never heard any such 'different' perspective or interpretation of these particular Scriptures. It answered a lot of questions yet left some still. My mind was messed up, so I left it alone for the most part for about 2 years. Since that time I have gone more deeply into asking God to show me truth and He has. I love our journey together. For the forst time in my 53 years I am beginning to no longer live from out or my old ways of thinking, old ways that kept me in a non-clear, deceived way of thinking and seeing as well as a bondage-keeping legalism instead of the freedom of 'love'. This web-site is awesome and I appreciate all the work that has made it possible. American Christians for the most part have never given themselves the freedom to think and make decisions about their beliefs, just between themselves and God.

If you were a Jew 2500+ years ago, where would you say God lived. You would answer in the temple. God is also in heaven. Between the time when the temple curtain was torn and the Holy of Holies was exposed and the temple destruction you would have to say that heaven has passed away. This is from a Jewish perspective. I have found your website very fun and interesting. It is very difficult to discuss preterism with “believers” rather than unbelievers. I would strongly recommend the book “Elements shall pass away”. It is a very good compostion and forces the reader to study deeply. It has taken be a long while to read it.

Again, thank you for your efforts in maintaining the website.

wow, this is so true! It makes so much more sense than trying to teach people that having faith in god is the only thing we have to know he is true..i mean thats what rapture teaching is all about..nothing but complete faith..and looking at the bible in a futuristic kinda fairy tale way...i mean come on people..god gave us the bible..yes so we could have faith in him..but also to let us know how powerful he really is...i mean look..the bible is a prophecy of the things to come in THEIR GENERATION...and he fulfilled his prophecy down to the wire..now that shows me what a GREAT AND POWERFUL god he really is. thanks for posting this site, and thanks for all the free study tools u have on it..i will contiune to get my information from it..and teach people the truth..
